Higginsons Scoop Top Award at National BBQ Competiton!
The main award of the competition, 'Overall Team Champions', was won by the 'North West Cowboys' - a joint team effort by two regional butchers, Higginsons of Grange and Steadmans of Sedbergh. The two businesses, both members of the Butchers Q Guild North-West region, earned the title by winning the best pork award with their ‘Pork Stirrups' and best burger product award with their ‘Ranch Burger. The products were named with a Wild West theme. The Pork Stirrups were made from Chinese style twice-cooked Belly of Pork, and the Ranch Burgers were produced using Smoked Beef.
The contest was staged at the Coniston Hotel near Skipton on Sunday 3rd April. Judges were Jonathon Davies, Winner of ITV's Britains Best Dish 2010, Jim Brown of Airdrie, Mrs Ethne Bannister of the Coniston Hotel and food writer and editor Elaine Lemm.
The contestants taking part on behalf of Higginsons were Mark Porter, Simon Gray and Linda Whitton, with Garth Steadman representing his own shop, Steadmans of Sedbergh.
Mark Porter, General Manager of Higginsons commented "We were delighted to come away with two product prizes and the overall team award at the National BBQ Contest, especially given the high level of competition from the other Q Guild Butchers. We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition and putting our product knowledge and barbequing skills to the test".
