Can I get Fresh Meat delivered to my home? How do I cook a beef roast? Here are some of our frequently asked meat questions.  If you cannot find the information you need below, please contact us and we will be happy to help you with your requirements.

Can I freeze my meat?

Yes. Unless otherwise specified as 'delivered frozen', all our meat is freshly prepared to orders and delivered fresh in temperature controlled packaging. Goods can then be unpacked and placed in a home freezer on arrival. Our vacuum packaging is also suitable for home freezing and helps to keep the meat succulent.

How do I place an order?

You can place an order on our website, by telephone or you can visit our shop in Grange-Over-Sands, Cumbria.

If you have specific requirements, or are unsure of the exact details of your order, we would be more than happy to discuss this with you over the telephone first. Payment and collection or delivery details can also be taken over the telephone.

To place an order on our website, simply select the type of meat you are looking for from the list on the right hand side, then click on the product you want and if you are happy with it, enter a quantity value into the quantity box and click 'Add to Basket'.  This will place the item in your shopping basket. When you have finished shopping, click 'Proceed to Checkout' and you will be guided through our secure payment process.

How long will my meat keep for?

Each order is contained in special cooling packaging which ensures the products remain at the correct temperature for at least 48 hours.  We send out the majority of our products in vacuum packaging, a natural way to keep the meat fresher for longer, with a 'best before' date on.  Once you have recieved the goods, keep in the fridge until you are ready to use them. Alternatively freeze them straight away and use within 6 months, being careful to defrost thoroughly before use.

How much does delivery cost

** DURING CORONAVIRUS WE ARE UNABLE TO OFFER OUR USUAL MAIL ORDER SERVICE. We are however running a local community home-delivery service available to residents within the LA11 postcode only. This service is free although a minimum spend of £25 per delivery is required **

Delivery is FREE for orders over £150 in value. 

Other orders are all charged at a flat rate of £12.00.

For local deliveries within the LA and CA postcode area, we are able to offer a delivery charge of £5.00,

You can also choose to collect any size of order yourself from our shop in Grange-Over-Sands, without any packing or delivery charge.

How will my order be packed?

When you buy fresh, quality, local meat from Higginsons, it is packed using state-of-the-art special cooling packaging to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.Your order will be freshly prepared, vacuum-packed or tray wrapped, and placed into specially insulated cartons and labelled. Your order is then placed in a strong, re-useable cool box with dry ice packs, which prevents warming and protects your goods from knocks or bumps during transit.

Is my order microwaveable?

Most meat products can be cooked in a microwave.  For full details on microwave cooking, see our Cooking Guide page.

Is there a minimum or maximum order quantity?

No, we are happy to take orders for any quantity of goods, however the maximum weight we can deliver in any single order is 20kg. Larger orders will be packed and delivered in separate boxes.

Satisfaction Guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the quality of the produce received, you should contact us within 24 hours of receipt.  All complaints will be dealt with personally by our Managing Director, Stuart Higginson.  Your statutory rights are not affected.

Unfulfilled Orders

Due to the seasonal nature of some of our produce and its limited supply, it is possible that from time to time we may be unable to fulfill some orders.  We will advise you as soon as possible if this is the case, and offer alternative produce or cancellation at your discretion.  In the event of us having to cancel an order, you will recieve a full refund.  If your order is for a large selection of items, we reserve the right to substitute meat of equal or superior quality and value and of the same type.

Weight Variations

When you place an order with us, it will be for a nominal weight of produce, at a specified price, and we will collect your payment when placing the order.  Because orders are prepared individually, it can be expected that there may be some small variation in weights above or below the weight you chose, and it is impractical for us to process small refunds or to request additional payments.  We will ensure that this variation never exceeds more or less than 10% of any item specified.  Items delivered within this 10% variation will be deemed as a complete and correct order.

What geographical area does your delivery service cover?

We deliver to most parts of Mainland UK.

Unfortunately we cannot currently deliver outside the UK or to the following locations: Scottish Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.

What if I am not at home for delivery?

Your order will require a signature when it arrives at the delivery address.  If you cannot be certain that the parcel will be signed for at home, we recommend that you specify alternative delivery instructions in the 'Special Instructions' box on Step 2, for example the name and address of your place of work, or the name and address of a neighbour.  If such information is provided, the courier will be informed accordingly.

What if the Goods do not arrive when I expect them?

We hope this will never be the case, however in the event of your order failing to arrive when expected, please contact us by telephone or email within 24 hours of the expected delivery quoting your order reference number.  We will investigate the situation immediately and advise you as soon as possible.  Should the order not be delivered within one working day of the date given in the order confirmation, you will be entitled to a full refund.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to sourcing the finest local produce from the farms on our doorstep.  Through the long-standing relationships we have established with our suppliers, we can ensure consistency in the quality and taste of our meat, and we are able to offer a great variety of produce, including unique local specialities such as Morecambe Bay Salt Marsh Lamb, Cartmel Valley Game and Lakeland Herdwick Lamb.  Within our large, well-equipped butchery, our skilled team of butchers will cater for your every need with passion and care, whether it be a special request or a regular delivery. 

When will my order be delivered?

We only use tried and tested food couriers, who will ensure that your goods reach you in prime condition, usually within 24 hours of being packed in our store.

We can deliver to your specified address from Tuesday - Friday each week.

Orders placed on or before 12 noon Saturday will arrive on Tuesday

Orders placed on or before 12 noon Monday will arrive Wednesday

Orders placed on or before 12 noon Tuesday will arrive Thursday

Orders placed on or before 12 noon Wednesday will arrive Friday

Will my order come with cooking instructions?

Your order does not come with cooking instructions, but we do have a Meat Cooking Guide page on our website with information on how to cook various cuts of meat. If you are still unsure, please telephone us to speak to a member of staff who can advise you accordingly.
